Going Upside Down: Yoga Inversions Workshop

with Natalie Snooke

Saturday 6 April 2019

Join Natalie in an exploration of the anatomy, practice and benefits of yoga inversion postures and strengthen your confidence and ability in 'being' upside-down.

We spend most of our waking hours either sitting or standing, with the head above the heart. Yoga inversions postures such as headstand and handstand reverse this habitual position.

Inversions are challenging because they test our physical and mental boundaries. They offer us the chance not only to ease pressure on the heart and spine, but to shift us psychologically - from fear to freedom.

Inversions become a powerful tool for teaching us how to breathe, cultivate balance and find strength when our world feels flipped upside down.

Natalie has been teaching and practising vinyasa and ashtanga yoga for 13 years. Over the years she has studied the complexity of inversions with several international teachers including Denise Payne, Julie Martin, Paul Dallaghan and Les Levanthal. She has a passion for helping students to find their inner strength and joy.

"Your Yoga Inversions Workshop was welcoming and great learning, as always. I discovered the steps to progress in inversions and taking it in stages helped me to realise and understand just where I'm at." ~ Sarah

Come and learn how to love inversions for yourself!

The Benefits:

"Your Inversions Workshop was invigorating! I really benefitted from not just getting into the posture but breaking it down step by step. I gained more of an understanding of not just inversions, but how the sequence is so important - you always run a lovely class." ~ Serena

In this fun and interactive workshop you will:

  • Understand how to create physical stability
  • Learn the basic anatomical features and key benefits of inversion postures
  • Isolate, activate and engage the correct muscles for your body
  • Explore variations of headstand, handstand, shoulder stand and other arm balances
  • Feel the fear and do it anyway - with awareness!
  • Develop a patient, wise and kind attitude towards yourself.

This workshop is suitable for experienced students, recommended for those with 1+ years regular yoga practice (it is not suitbale for complete beginners). You should also be free from shoulder and neck injuries to be able to fully and safely participate.

"I loved breaking down each inversion pose into its parts and including a 'full' breath. It was a really supportive, nurturing introduction to inversions - you will surprise yourself with how you feel afterards!" ~ Wendy

This workshop is also suitable for yoga teachers who wish to develop their inversion teaching skills and can be used as Continuing Professional Development (counting as three CPD points) with Yoga Australia or Yoga Alliance.
